When a house has outgrown 200 amps, a 400A service is a bigger project than a panel swap: larger equipment, often engineered plans, and more utility review. We handle all of it.
Overview
Most Phoenix homes are fine on 200 amps. A 400A service makes sense when the load calculation says the house has truly outgrown it: several A/C systems, a pool and spa, a casita, more than one EV, or a switch to all-electric appliances.
We do the load calculation before recommending anything. Sometimes a sub-panel or EV load management solves it for much less, and we'll tell you when that's the case.
Get a free quoteSRP requires shop drawings for every service rated 400A and above, and for 320A equipment that isn't on its pre-approved list. A residential “400A” service usually uses a meter rated 320A continuous (the CL320 class). We prepare and submit the drawings, and SRP has to approve the meter location before the work.
When a job replaces or relocates the meter, APS requires its own inspection and approval before it re-energizes the service, on top of the city inspection. We file the request with load information, schedule the disconnect, and coordinate both inspections. How the SRP and APS process works →
On Olney Ave in Phoenix the property had outgrown its service. We installed a new 400A meter-main with an exterior emergency disconnect, trenched and installed a new underground feeder, and set a 200A sub-panel for the added load. It was permitted and inspected, the utility set and released the meter, and the trench was backfilled clean. See the full Olney Ave job →
